PLAN
SAVANNAH 2000 - SEPTEMBER PROGRAM
Pizza + Beer = Creativity
"Memorable cities and
towns are characterized by beautiful streets - streets made beautiful by
an appealing width, an intriguing curve or dramatic straightness,
harmonious building facades or large, gracious trees. Streets provide the
powerful images that make up our impression of a place. They are also
communal living rooms - where civic rituals and activities both great and
common take place." Alex
Krieger
AIA Savannah is hosting
Plan Savannah 2000 - a public design forum for Bull Street from Victory
Drive to Forsyth Park. The forum will be held at 5:30 p.m. on November 16,
2000, at the American Legion Building located at 1108 Bull Street. Our
goal is to provide a future vision for Bull Street - a street that is
inviting, stimulating and safe and serves as the public living space.
At our June meeting, we
heard from the Metropolitan Planning Commission on current planning
activities, recent rezoning requests, and the historical significance of
our study area. In recent weeks the planning committee has participated in
special meetings with the Thomas Square and Metropolitan Neighborhood
Associations. We received tremendous support and were challenged with the
many issues presented by business owners, community leaders and
homeowners.
At our September meeting we will have an opportunity to roll
up our sleeves, take the issues gathered, and begin to envision what Bull
Street "could be". The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday,
September 14, 2000, at the American
Legion Building. To help with the ambience for this informal
charrette we are serving pizza and beer (soft drinks and water) and ask
that everyone simply bring good ideas!!
